Sigma Tau Delta is the international honor society for students of English. The purpose of Sigma Tau Delta is to recognize outstanding students of English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate and professional studies. The name of Sigma Tau Delta is derived from the first letter of each of the words that form our official motto: "Sincerity, Truth, Design."

Our purpose is as follows:

"We shall endeavor to advance the study of English language and literature, to encourage worthwhile reading, to promote written expression, and to foster a spirit of fellowship, ever keeping in mind the motto of our Society: Sincerity, Truth, and Design."
